GARMENT DIMENSIONS – the puffy dress sewing pattern

puffy dress sewing pattern garment measurement chart
aria dress sewing pattern measurement chart

let’s have a look at measurements

the puffy dress comes in 7 different sizes from xs up to xxxl! find the various measurement per size in the chart. Not sure which size you are? click the button to see the tropical research size guide/ body measurements

the different sizes mainly change in the width and a little bit of length

make a toile and try!

If the dramatic volume of the puffy dress is too much for you – you easily mix and match the different sizes i.e. use an L bodice with an XS skirt . Vice versa you can also combine a smaller bodice with a larger skirt and get more volume.

2 VERSIONS OF THE PATTERN

to get the best fit possible.

the alternative version on the left vs the regular on the right

The puffy dress sewing pattern is available in 2 different versions. The original version gets longer and wider with each size ( including the neckline) this works good for taller sewists with a long torso. The alternative version however has a fixed length and neckline through all the sizes. It get’s wider and the sleeves get longer. This is catering to body types with a shorter torso and keeps the neckline small even in the larger sizes.

Try which one suits you best and leave me feedback if you like! I’m always trying to make my patterns as accessible and inclusive as possible and I couldn’t do it without all the lovely feedback and comments!

MATERIAL CONSUMPTION

depending on the size - the fabric consumption changes. xs and s can be cut as usual with the main fold of the fabric , lengthwise. For the sizes m-xxxl we need to fold the fabric twice and along the width in order to fit the huge second tier

check the lay plan options above to get an idea of how to cut the fabric. Ideally you would want to get 160cm wide 63″. If the fabric is narrower that’s okay too – you just need to buy a few more yards/meters to be sure. Alternatively you can always make a short blouse version if your favourite fabric isn’t enough for the full dress!

MATERIAL COICES

which fabric do you want to use?

the puffy dress has a lot of volume and uses lots of fabric, I recommend to keep it light and drapy – washed linens – soft cottons – viscose or silk . But then again try and experiment make the puffy dress your own 😀

PATTERN HACKS!

Like all of my patterns – the puffy dress sewing pattern – has a few nifty pattern hacks included in the tutorial ebook. You can easily make a sleeveless or blouse version without much hassle or get a bit more crafty and add a button placket to the front! This hacks so pretty it could have been the main version just as well. But then again I don’t have a machine that can make nice button holes and have so far been relying on a nice sewist auntie a good 45min from here to make them for me.
